Monitoring WAN Links when desitination IP not under your control

I happend to receive this interesting question from a customer who is evaluating OpManager IPSLA module. Thought it is useful one, so sharing it with you all.

Hi sirs,
I'm wondering if I can monitor a WAN link between my internet router (under my control) where the other side is not under my control. For instance, can I monitor the link to Google's DNS server (8.8.8.8)?

Yes, you can monitor any IP address that is reachable from your router. It need not be under your control.  OpManager uses Cisco's IPSLA (click here to know more about it ) technology to monitor the WAN Links, it stores the source & destination details inside the router and continously monitors latency  of  the WAN link Hop-by-Hop, all you need to have is a Cisco router in your office.

If you wish to try this feature send a mail to  eval@opmanager < dot>  com, we will help you to set up IPSLA WAN monitor.

Thanks and Regards,
