I've seen a few systems constantly sending out traps for "uptime", and right now we have a polycom device that is sending traps every few seconds. The trap is just a normal notification of "uptime". I did a little googling and have reached the conclusion that this "reverse polling", has been deteremined to be faster than polling (such as ping tests).
So I seem to be faced with a decision. Which is, if I open SNMP to this network device, then I'm going to be flooded with traps. Traps which opmanager can only deal with as a problem notification, rather than the healthy indicator of system uptime, which it is intended.
Can opmanager incorporate this system uptime trap notification, by changing the notification criteria, to include a monitor for having not received this system uptime trap. I understand that I would need to configure the trap processor, I just need opmanager to have another way of seeing traps, rather than just a problem event.
Thank you-
