Monitoring temperature on IBM servers

I am trying to monitor temperature on our IBM server and have tried adding the vendor specific monitor for our x series server without any success. Using the Test Monitor button on the Monitor Properties page results in a Monitor did not respond error. We have installed the latest IBM agents on the x series 236 server.......any clues on how to troubleshhot this issue.
