Metrics Question - How to report on times?

I am trying to find a way to see how to report on the time from when a request is received by ServiceDesk to when it is assigned to someone or group.

I know we can see how long requests take to close from when they are assigned, but we want to be able to measure this as well.

If anyone has done this could you please share.
