Merge workstations?
Hi,
When using SDP 6 we had entered all of our workstations and other assets, filled in all the details and assigned them to users. These workstations were named using the serial number of the machine rather than the computer name at the time as the computer name can change and sometimes does. The serial number was also entered into the correct place.
When we upgraded to version 7, it scanned the network and we now have a LOT of duplicate entries as we have a few thousand assets in our system. There are currently close to 3000 workstations listed because of the duplicates. Is there any way to merge the old assets with the new ones? It will be a mammoth task to delete all the old ones and then reassign all workstations to users all over again.
Also, when a user has multiple operating systems on one workstation it lists it multiple times. Is there not a smarter way of having the scan list the workstation only once? Surely it should be able to recognize that two computer names have exactly the same details and group them together somehow?
