I have MDM setup to talk to the apple app store and a VPP token installed.

I can assign Apps to a device and it will appear in the ME App catalog to install but when you goto install it, the device will then tell you no iTunes account exists on the device.   If I add a generic iTunes account to the device then it will let me install the apps via the ME app.

But surely the whole purpose of doing it this way is not to require an iTunes account on every device?  Or am I misunderstanding how it works?

Assuming that a generic iTunes account is required on all devices;

1- Is there a limit on number of devices that can use a single iTunes account?  I read it was max of 10 devices.  If so, this is not practical.

2- I cannot find a way though Policies either on MDM or via Apple Configurator 2 where I can add an iTunes account to the device as part of the setup.

Can anyone provide any help on this as it seems like this solution won't be viable for 1,000s of devices.
