MDM and Active Directory user password changes = Sync!
I recently spoke with a representative from ManageEngine and asked him if they were developing - or had plans in the roadmap to develop the ability for Desktop Central MDM to automatically push out password changes from ActiveDirectory down to the phones. Blackberry has had this ability for years using their BES server software.
I was very surprised to hear that they had no such plans and also that not many customers have ever brought up the question. What gives?
We are a medium-sized company that currently has 25-30 smart phones managed by MDM - over the next 3 months will be adding 60-70 new smartphones to be managed. Our AD password policy is that users have to change their passwords every 30 days. Currently we receive a lot of helpdesk requests concerning users changing their password and now their email is not working on their phone - despite having provided documentation on how to change the password on the phone each time they change their AD password.
A lot of the new phones will be going to field users who aren't necessarily tech-saavy but need to access their email and other apps from the field. I am afraid that we are going to be putting a huge burden on our helpdesk after we add these new phones. Does anyone else have this problem? Are there any work-arounds?
