Managing Laptops
This is an issue on our network as we have approx 30 laptops that come on and off the network regularly. By default we get errors on both the laptop and the switch whenever one leaves the network, I can set everything to unmanaged but feel that these could be handled better if
- You could group them separately from desktops to be able to manage large numbers of them and be able to lable them as a Windows XP Laptop, not just either.
- Be able to disable alarms as you can notifications and ideally be able to just disabled the disconnection alarm, ideally we still want to know if other thresholds such as disk space are being reached when they are connected.
- Be able to tell a switch port not to worry about disconnections, but still be able to get traffic flow information when a device is connected.
- Would be really funky of you could also get the switch to ignore any disconnections from the laptops but I think this will have to be managed manually
