We originally purchased Service Desk Plus and Desktop Central to help manage and track our software and the License Keys for all of the software. With recent changes made with some of the Software Manufacturers, we are no longer capable of retrieving those keys. When we inquired as to why we can not get those keys, we were given the following response;
"I did check this part out and was informed that for now the license keys will not be fetched for any softwares, but down the line they might go-ahead and bring this for the Microsoft Software's alone."
This response is completely bad form for a product that touts to be ITIL compliant. Through the ITIL process asset management is vital to the life cycle of the network environment. It is my opinion that this issue needs to move up in the priority list of Manage Engine. As with just about anything in the IT world, you can loose the bubble very quickly if you do not have a good process and method for tracking all aspects of your inventory. As a contractor for the Federal Government, accountability is extremely important to the success of the efforts made by the IT team. Part of inventory management is tracking all of the license keys for ALL of the software in the inventory.
Respectfully request that the retrieval of the License Keys be resolved sooner rather than later. Please post your comments if you are in agreement with this post.
