Leased Assets - How to keep record of lease

Just started looking at the Asset is Leased option within SD+7 ( ent ) , build 7004 and I'm a little confused as to how it is expected to be used.

We have a laptop which is on a 3 year lease , rather than being purchased. The AD scan detected it on the network and I manually assigned it to a user. At this point I ticked the 'Asset is Leased' boxed and entered the start and end dates of the lease.
All seems fine. The asset then appears in the Leased assets selection with the workstation lists.
I then changed the state back to In Store, as if the owner had left the organisation and the equipment comes back to IT for safe keeping.
The item disappears from the Leased Assets list.
I then change the state from In Store to In Use, and find the Lease information is no longer displayed, essentially as far as I can tell lost.

What looked like a very useful feature now seems to have little use in the way it is implemented, unless I am misunderstanding how it is meant to be used.

Appreciate the guidance or indication that it is a bug to be resolved.
