JSR 160 JMX with a RMI Connector bound to Weblogic 8.1 JNDI

JSR 160 JMX with a RMI Connector bound to Weblogic 8.1 JNDI

We're using a JSR 160/JMX 1.2 bridge to Weblogic 8.1's JMX (JMX 1.0) and we're using it with the "JMX 1.2 / JDK 1.5 / MX4J - RMI Connector"-monitor in Applications Manager. To do this, we currently need to run a rmiregistry process on the server which we bind the RMI JMX connector to but we'd very much prefer to put the reference in the Weblogic JNDI tree to avoid having another system process to monitor and to be able to restrict access to it.
The problem is that we there is no obvious way to specify the protocol of the directory in ManageEngine but it is forced to use an RMI registry. Note that this is just the protocol of the directory to acquire the reference to the connector, we'd still be using the RMI connector.
Is there a way to specify this? We need to set the connection factory as well as principal and credentials. Can we do this through some kind of configuration file?
