It is mandatory to use Desktop Central in Asset Explorer?

It is mandatory to use Desktop Central in Asset Explorer?

Good morning, I recently updated the Asset Explorer application and it asks us to install Desktop Central to use all the features. Before we didn't have it and we could use Asset Explorer normally. Is it mandatory to use it now? Can it be used with the free license?
