We are currently trialling the Service Desk Plus 6 edition in our environment and have hit a stumbling block when it comes to the Workstation scanning modules and Asus laptops...
From what I can work out the Workstation Scanning Module uses the "Serial Number" value stored in DMI under the System Information DMI handle to generate a "Service Tag" value in Service Desk Plus... On Asus laptops this value is populated with a generic value... We also use Toshiba laptops and on these, this is populated with the correct serial number of the laptop...
To get around this ASUS have a tool which I believe you can probably get from their tech support which allows you to change this DMI value to something more meaningful, however I have also seen a product called DMIScope available which claims to do the same...
I have tried this out on my Asus laptop and it seems to have done the trick, but needs to be run from a DOS boot disk at each affected laptop...
Anyways just thought I would share this snippet of info with anyone who is also experiencing the same issue... Fortunately we only have a handful of Asus laptops at this stage so not a big issue...
