Is there a way of adding another letter to NT usernames if that username is already in use?

Is there a way of adding another letter to NT usernames if that username is already in use?

Is there a way of adding another letter to NT usernames if that username is already in use?

For example we use     

%Full Surname%%First letter of forename%    

and then if this is in use go to   

%Full Surname%%First and Second letter of surname%    

and then failing that

%Full Surname%%First, Second and Third Letter of surname%

Hope that makes sense? Is there a automatic way to make this happen should the NT username already be in use? Or even a manual way? I.E just a way of informing the operator that the NT username already exists?
