Inventory feature requests

Inventory feature requests

I'm in the process now of setting up the inventory portion of ServiceDesk. Here's some features I'd like to see:

Network drive info for currently logged on user in all operating systems, not just Windows 2000 (they do not show up in scans on Windows XP machines)

UNC paths that the above-mentioned network drives are mapped to (i.e. \\server\sharename)

Username and mapped network printers of currently logged on user

A lookup table for locations instead of manual text entry of location into every workstation, and perhaps link this lookup table to users so that the user's location will be applied to a workstation when it gets assigned to a user; that table could then be linked to the "Office" property of the user accounts in Active Directory so that the location lookup table could be automatically populated during AD user import

Do not let scan errors from populating the "Comments" field in the workstation details; I would prefer that error messages be limited to just the system log

I realize that some of these, such as network printers, may not be possible without a locally-installed scanning agent, but I hope they will be included at some point in the future. It does seem odd that network drives show up in the scan results for Windows 2000 and not XP though. I wonder if that's a bug or a security limitation of WMI.

Thank you for taking the time to consider these features for future releases. I hope these are suggestions that will be useful to many SD+ users.
