Installing SNMP Agent on Linux

I am running the following linux distribution on my machine:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 3 (Taroon)
I have installed OpManager on the same machine and wish to configure SNMP Agent on this machine. Should I download new version of SNMP or not.
As per the user guide, the installation of new version of SNMP is required only for versions prior to 8. Is my linux version lower that Linux 8 or higher than Linux 8?
