I want to see discards/errors without seeing up-down events on interfaces. Any ideas?

I want to see discards/errors without seeing up-down events on interfaces. Any ideas?

I have student ports I would like to monitor for errors or discard excessiveness, but don't want events to come through when they connect and disconnect their computers. Will I have to unmanage the ports or remove them and lose everything monitored on them just to stop the updown events?
