How to use Wavecom M1306B Modem?

I've bought a Wavecom M1306B Modem and installed it as a standard 56000 bps Modem on a Windows 2003 Server where Opmanager is installed.
With Hyperterminal i can use AT commands to dial out and this is working fine.
The modem is installed on COM1. If I go to the SMS server settings in Opmanager and enter the Port Number to COM1 I get a message stating Modem is not connected properly. Check your settings.
What am I missing here?
