ADManager Plus, an AD management and reporting solution, simplifies file server permissions management by offering built-in options to set, modify or revoke NTFS and share permissions of folders. With ADManager Plus, you can not only manage the access rights of multiple folders at once, but also assign granular NTFS and share permissions for individual folders.
Prerequisite for setting or modifying NTFS permissions via ADManager Plus:
The file server, which hosts the folders whose permissions are to be modified, must be configured in ADManager Plus.
For this:
Logon to ADManager Plus.
Click on the AD Mgmt tab.
Click on the File Server Management option in the left navigation pane.
Click on the Manage File Servers option.
Add your file server.
Click on Save.
Steps to set NTFS permissions using ADManager Plus:
1. Logon to ADManager Plus and click on the AD Mgmt tab.
2. Click on the File Server Management option in the left pane.
3. Click on Modify NTFS Permissions.
4. Select the user account to which you wish to assign the necessary NTFS permissions.
5. Select the folders and files whose NTFS permissions have to be modified.
6. Select the type of NTFS permissions.
7. Select the level and type of access.
8. Click on the + symbol to add another set of users and the associated NTFS permissions for the selected files and folders.
9. Click on the Advanced button, to configure options such as:
a. Including the inheritable permissions of the parent objects.
b. Removing all existing permissions and assigning only the permissions that you just configured.
c. Replacing all the inherited permissions on all descendants with the permissions of the object that you just configured.
10. Click on the Preview button to view all the existing permissions of the object(s) and also the permissions that are to be modified.
11. Click on Apply.
