How to perform Active Directory (AD) user provisioning with a CSV file, using ADManager Plus

As opposed to the native AD tools, ADManager Plus enables you to create multiple Active Directory (AD) users in one go, by importing a CSV file that contains the required user details, without using PowerShell scripts.

Rules for creating a CSV file required for bulk user creation:

    1. The first row of the CSV file must contain the LDAP names of the AD attributes whose values you wish to set. To view a complete list of all the LDAP attributes that can be specified in a CSV file for user creation or modification, click here.

    2. Each successive row is a user record that contains the values for the respective LDAP attribute.

    3. All the mandatory attributes' values such as givenName, sn, and more must be specified in the  the CSV file for successful user creation. Click here to view a sample CSV file.

Tip:

Configuring passwords via a CSV file is a poor security practice. In ADManager Plus, you can set passwords using templates. You can then specify the template name that you wish to utilize for user creation in the CSV file under the 'templateName' CSV header.

Steps to import user details using a CSV:

    1. Logon to ADManager Plus and click on the AD Mgmt tab.

    2. Navigate to the User Creation section and click on Create Bulk Users. You can also navigate to the CSV Import section and use the Create Users option for performing bulk user creation using a  CSV file.

    3.  Select the  Domain  in which you wish to create the users.
    4.  Select the  Template that you wish to use. The ADManager Plus templates help fill attribute values automatically during user creation.
You can specify the template in which you have already specified the password or the method to set the password. Additionally, you can also specify other important attributes like group memberships, logon hours and more using templates. The template specified in the CSV file will take precedence over the template chosen in the Create Bulk Users page.

    5. Click on the Import option and select the CSV file.

    6. Click on OK

    7. The user records will be imported from the CSV file and displayed in the product. If needed, you can modify the details of a user using the Modify symbol located beside the relevant user name.

    8. Click on Next

    9. Choose the container in which you wish to place the users. You can also create OUs dynamically by clicking on the Create New OU button. If you wish to place the users in different OUs, then list the respective OU names under the 'OUname' header in the CSV file.

    10. Click on Create Users

Advantages of using ADManager Plus for user provisioning:

    1. Script-free user provisioning

    2. Capability to configure all the necessary attributes at once.

    3. Auto-fill attribute values with the help of rule-based templates.

    4. Use templates to detect and handle duplicates.

    5. One-stop solution for user provisioning across multiple platforms like AD, Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, and more.
