How to add objects to multiple Active Directory (AD) groups at once, using ADManager Plus

As opposed to the native AD tools that require you to use complex PowerShell scripts to add objects to multiple AD groups, ADManager Plus allows you to add objects to groups using a CSV file in just a few clicks.

Rules for creating a CSV file required for adding objects to groups:

    1. The first row of the CSV file must contain the LDAP names of the AD attributes you wish to configure. To view the complete list of all the LDAP attributes that can be specified in a CSV file,  click here.

    2. Every row represents an object, and contains the values of the various attributes of the object.

    3. In the CSV file, specify the name of the group to which the object has to be added, and the DistinguishedName of the object to be added (under the 'member' LDAP attribute).

Steps for adding many objects to multiple groups using ADManager Plus:

    1. Logon to ADManager Plus and navigate to the AD Mgmt tab.

    2. Click the Group Management section in the left navigation page, and click on Modify Bulk Groups.

    3. Click on Import and specify the CSV file that contains the object and group details.

    4. Click OK

    5. Select the objects you wish to add to the group.

    6. Click on Update in AD.

    7. In the Select Attributes window that pops-up, select member attribute as the attribute that you wish to update.

    8. In the same window, select name as the attribute using which the objects must be located in AD.

    9. Configure Advanced Options such as clearing the value of the attribute in AD, if its value in the CSV is empty, and more.

    10. Click on OK

Advantages:

  • Script-free group membership management

  • Automatically add objects to groups
