Has anyone tried using a Blackberry for SMS notifications.

While I search for a gsm modem from the supported list (http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/opmanager/sms-modem.html), I had a thought.
When you connect a blackberry to a windows server with it's Desktop Manager software, you can set it up to be a tethered modem and it assigns a com port to it. attached is a screen shot from control panel > modems > diagnostic.
Before I invest time trying this, has anyone tried to use a Blackberry device as a GSM modem for SMS notifications in OpManager? The only reason I want to try this is that I have MANY old blackberry devices lying around, and no normal phones.
