Gmail-Problem connecting to mailbox

I apologize if this has been addressed previously, but I couldn't find anything in the forums. I'm using ServiceDesk Plus 5.0.0, Build 5001, on a win 2k box.

when I attempt to set up the Email configuration using my Gmail account I receive the following Error:

"FAILURE : Email Settings saved successfully. But error occurred while trying to check connection with mail server - Problem connecting to mailbox."

I believe this may be due to Gmail requiring a secure connection for both incoming and outgoing mail and I can only find a setting for outgoing in SD5. Am I way off base? if not is there a work around?

Here is what I've tried so far:
Triple checked Gmail, ensuring POP fowarding is enabled
Triple checked the SD5 Email settings ensuring they match what Gmail says they should (with the exception of the Incoming SSL issue noted above)
Stopped and restarted SD5 service
Rebooted and tried all this again

Any insight on how to correct this would be greatly appreciated. again I apologize if this has already been covered.
