I am evaluating ADSelfservice. While it seems to work very well, I did notice an issue that I am not sure what to do with. I read through the posts and noticed a couple of people had the same problem; slowness when accessing the login screen, and when actually logging in. I did however narrow down the cause.
It seems the system performs a series of inquiries on the workstation that is accessing it. When I access the console from the server (Win 2k3 SR2, 4GB RAM), accessing the site and logging in are nearly instantaneous; logging in from a workstation (intranet or Internet) is very slow. However when I shut the firewall off on the workstation, it works perfectly just as if I was accessing on the server.
Is there a way turn off this feature so that it will not probe the PC's? Or is there another workaround? We have over 6700 users and I really don't want my helpdesk to begin fielding those types of calls. At present it takes about 60 secs total; 30-40 to get to the login screen, another 20 or so to physically get in. With the PC's firewall off, the whole process takes only a few seconds.
