FAILURE: Connection to RPC server in the workstation failed.
Hello all,
We are experiencing the "Connection to RPC server in the workstation failed" error when connecting to Windows XP SP2 workstations when Windows Firewall is enabled. When the firewall is turned off, the workstations scan successfully but company security policy requires the firewall to be enabled at all times.
I have opened the following ports on the firewall but it still hasn't solved the problem:
TCP port 7
TCP port 135
TCP port 445
UDP port 445
I've noticed by looking at the C:\Windows\pfirewall.log file that ServiceDesk also seems to try to connect to this workstation using TCP port 23 and UDP port 8001. I've also created exceptions for these ports but to no avail.
I've also followed the steps detailed in the following Microsoft KB article relating to "How to configure RPC dynamic port allocation to work with firewalls" but this hasn't made any difference.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue? I notice lots of forum messages relating to this error but none of them actually provide a fix. If anyone from AdventNet can assist this would be appreciated. Any advice you can provide that can be posted here for everyone to benefit from would be really useful.
Thanks,
Daniel
