Exchange Agent Message Bytes Question

We have the Exchange-Server Agent up and running, but I continually receive warnings:
MTA message bytes per sec reached the threshold level. : MTAMessageBytes : Curent Value : 2060588 : Threshold value : 2048000 : Severity : Critical : Rearm Value: 2000000
When I check the monitor, it seems that the value is constantly added and is never reset again.
What does this value mean? My monitor says, that I have a constant traffic rate of more than 7 MByte/sec of messages.
