We are currently observing reports of issues affecting Microsoft Excel 2016, 2019, 2021, and other Office releases following the September 2026 Microsoft Office updates.
Users have reported that common Excel functions such as copy and paste, drag-and-fill, and copying worksheets within the same workbook may stop working after installing the latest updates. Similar reports have appeared across Microsoft Q&A and community forums over the past 24 hours.
Affected users have reported issues including:
Copy and paste not working within Excel
Paste options appearing unavailable or producing no result
Drag-and-fill/formula dragging not working
Unable to copy worksheets within the same workbook
Some reports specifically associate the issue with recent Office 2016 and Office 2021 updates. Community reports also indicate that removing or rolling back the affected update has restored Excel functionality in some environments, though this is not yet an official Microsoft workaround.
As of now, Microsoft has not officially acknowledged this as a known issue.
We are raising the issue with Microsoft and will continue monitoring Microsoft Q&A and other community reports for confirmation, root cause details, and an official resolution or workaround.
Administrators experiencing this issue are advised to validate the latest Office updates in a test environment before wider deployment where possible.
