Effects of blowing out asset list?
I am very new to ManageEngine, and have been tasked with getting our asset lists in order. We use the domain scan in our environment, with about a 50% success rate. About 25% fail due to what looks like the usual: firewall enabled, credentials incorrect, RPC/DCOM settings not configured. The other 25% are simply not relevant in the domain (test machines, should never have been in scanned OU, etc). That 25% represents several hundred assets. I am walking into this after the system has been running as is for over a year. We have 10k+ incidents in the system and would like to maintain as many history associations with good assets as possible without manually deleting hundreds of systems record by record.
Ideally I would like to completely blow out the current list of assets and allow them to all be rediscovered with a new domain scan so I know what my control is. My question is, how will this effect records with those assets attached? Specifically, if I delete workstation abc123.domain.com and that asset has 50 incidents associated with its history, what happens when the asset is deleted and then rediscovered, and more incidents are associated with that same asset?
Apologies in advance for lack of correct product verbiage and terminology - still reading the admin guide. Please let me know if I can be more specific. Looking forward to exploring the community - any help appreciated.
