Duplicate workstation assets showing as IP addresses, eating up total asset count

Hello all,

My title pretty much describes the issue, but to clarify:

I have a 500 IT asset limit in my Service Desk environment, which is fine because I have less than 400 total workstations and servers to keep track of. However, I am noticing that many of my workstations are listing themselves twice in the total asset sheet, once as their hostname, and again as their IP address.

I found that my own workstation was one of these devices, and removed my associated IP address from the assets list and have yet to notice any negative effects. If that's the process I need to take to remove them, then that's fine, but my concern is how and why did it register the IP addresses as assets, so that I can prevent this from happening in the future, and avoid constantly having to remove the bad entries.

Anyone have a good reason as to why they are showing up? Could it be that the agent is corrupted, or that a duplicate entry is created if the agent is not properly uninstalled before reinstallation? I can't find any patterns or relationships between the devices that are appearing in the list.

See attached .png for example of listed hostnames/addresses

Thanks
