Duplicate information in email

If I edit an Email Profile and add a $ variable to the message, the variable also shows up in the Alarm Details of the email. When I remove the variable, it is automatically removed from the Alarm Details. The result is that every email has a Message and Alarm Details section both of which contain the exact same data. Is there a way to prevent this behavior?
