Do WOL require DS to work?

Do WOL require DS to work?

Currently using the cloud desktop central and for some reason, the DS services have stopped functioning. So my question is: -
  1. Do managed computers require the DS in working condition in order for WOL to work?
When attempting to WOL a computer from the cloud desktop central, how does the network flow go? from requesting computer > DS > targeted WOL computer?
