Device Type Unknown and WMI monitors working

Hello,

I am with the IT department with my company. Recently I have been tasked with trying to find a solution for our need for an Event Log / Syslog collections service as well as a system that can monitor each workstation and sever in our domain. OpManager seemed like the correct choice. However, I am experiencing problems getting it to work correctly. My problems are as follows:

Upon entering the various subnets to be discovered, and waiting the appropriate time, OpManager discovers our workstations but lists them as Device Type: Unknown. All of our workstations are Dell dekstops with Windows XP Pro w/ SP2. Why is OpManager not finding the proper OS? We are not running SNMP on these machines as it is not a default install. My understanding was that WMI should be sufficient for our needs. However that brings up the next problem.

For the subnet I'm on, I have manually set each desktop to Device Type: Windows XP. From there, I have added CPU Utilization and Free Hard Disk WMI monitors on these machines. Again, after the proper polling time, the monitors show "N/A" with no graphs.

The OpManager is running on a Windows XP machine that is virtualized in VMWare. It has the proper amount of memory allotted and enough CPU and disk space to meet all requirements.

Ultimately, our puchase decision relies upon whether or not this application can meet our needs. It is difficult to measure that when the system does not work.
