The dictionary definition of an anomaly goes something like this- Anything that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected. Anomalies in IT usually point to something that needs our immediate attention. For example, 2 continuous failed login attempts on a business critical server might be normal, but 10 continuous failed attempts is an anomaly. An office router sending 10 GBs of data per hour on a work day is normal, but is an anomaly on a non-working day.
It is easy to miss these anomalies amidst the barrage of alarm notifications your application monitoring software throws at you every minute.
Analytics Plus' Anomaly Detector highlights hourly anomalies on an easy to understand graph. It displays the volume of alarms from your monitoring software at hourly intervals. A grouping of alarms on a certain hour of the day could often mean things such as scheduled backup failures, scheduled synchronisation failures, users attempting an unauthorised operations etc.
The Anomaly Detector can also be setup to highlight anomalies on a particular day of the week.
