Debian 6.03 AMD 64 unable to run X-Plane 10 crash

Running Debian 6.03 on an AMD64 CPU based system I am unable to start X-Plane 10.
It crashes during the splash screen.

I have X-Plane 8 which runs fine - but the demo of version 10 - not so fine.

As I am hoping to get to version 10 any help with getting the demo running is greatly appreciated so I can order the full version.
