Creating multiple Ethernet interface templates
Hello,
I'm hoping to find a solution to create multiple Ethernet interface templates for use with different switches and routers being monitored by OpManager. We're running build 8005.
I have different Ethernet interfaces on various switches and routers in my network that I'd like to monitor utilization upon. At the same time, only having an Ethernet interface template is restrictive -- a threshold for a switch might not be the same as what's needed on a router, or even different ports on the same switch or router.
For example:
-- I would like to monitor a router's WAN interface and have an alert generated if that interface goes over 15% (it's a 100Mb interface but only has a 20Mb circuit connected, which means 15% utilization would then actually be 75% of our circuit's bandwidth).
-- At the same time, I have a trunk link on a switch that I'd like to monitor and have an alert generated if that interface goes over 50% (it's a 1Gb interface but often spikes high as backup traffic runs across it).
As far as I can tell, making a change to the interface template for Ethernet to 50% would then help for my switch, but would not allow me to have a useful monitor on my router (or vice versa if I used 15%). How can I create multiple Ethernet interface templates and/or change utilization threshold monitoring on a per-switch or per-router basis? I don't see where I can change thresholds on the pages for each piece of network equipment. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place to make these changes.
Thanks in advance for help with this,
Sam
