Created an extra technician record, can I delete it?

We are starting to get our ServiceDesk going, and I think I made a mistake.  We have it tied into AD and importing user records as Requesters, which all works fine.  As a noob admin, I didn't see the proper way to create a new Technician record, which I now think is to take a Requester record and do "Change as Technician."  Instead, I went straight to the Technicians list and "Created A New Technician."  I gave him the same login name as the user I wanted to promote to Technician (let's say ASmith).  However, I don't seem able to delete it now that I (hopefully) know the proper way.  I deleted Technician ASmith and it no longer appears on the Technician list.  I deleted the Requester ASmith.  However, if I look at something like Support Groups, ASmith still shows up on the list of available technicians.  If I re-import from AD, Requester ASmith shows up again as expected.  If I Add As Technician, he will show up on the list of Technicians in the Support Group list twice.  I've tried all different permutations of these steps but can't get rid of the "phantom" Technician ASmith.

There are no tickets, open or closed, associated with ASmith as either Requester or Technician.  However, there are about a dozen associated with the one Support Group he was in.  I was thinking of editing all those tickets to remove the Support Group temporarily, in case that tie is preventing a permanent deletion.

So my questions are if there is any way I can permanently remove the Technician ASmith, then re-add him from Requester ASmith?  And is that the best way to create a Technician?
