Clarification on Managing 80,000–100,000 Endpoints and Hierarchical Distribution Server Setup

Hello everyone,

We are planning to migrate our infrastructure to ManageEngine Endpoint Central with the goal of implementing a Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) solution for our entire organization. Our environment includes approximately 80,000–100,000 client systems, and our aim is to manage them through a single Endpoint Central server.

From what I’ve gathered, it’s recommended to manage around 35,000 clients per instance and use Summary Servers to collect data from those servers. However, our requirement is to have centralized management and full control of all endpoints from a single server, as Summary Servers primarily serve as data collectors without complete administrative control.

In addition, based on the documentation available, a Distribution Server (DS) should connect directly to the Endpoint Central Server. We are exploring whether it’s possible to establish a hierarchical Distribution Server structurefor example, having one DS download all required updates, and then allowing other DSs to connect to it (their upper-level DS) instead of directly to the main server. This structure would help us optimize bandwidth usage and limit administrative access at various DS levels.

Could someone please confirm if both of the following are supported?

  1. Managing 80,000–100,000 endpoints through a single server.

  2. Implementing a hierarchical (chained) Distribution Server setup.

If these configurations are feasible, I’d really appreciate it if you could share any relevant documentation or best practices.

Thank you in advance for your guidance
Best regards,
Robert Maxwell
