I've added a Cisco 6509 running CatOS to OpManager and I'm adding specific 'interesting' interfaces that I want to monitor (uplinks to the firewall, MPLS routers, dot1Q trunks and point to point links etc.

 

When OpManager discovers the available interfaces on the device, it doesn't show the configured interface description in the 'Display Name' column. for example, I've added a description of " Firewall1" to one of the interfaces, but OpManager returns " 10/100/1000 utp ethernet-7/6". this isn't too much of a problem, as I can see that it's interface 7/6 (in red) in the description.

 

But I'm running into a problem. I'm trying to determine another interface, (which is in the same line card in the 6509) and the positon that I expect it to appear in the list is not what I expect. So then I decided to use the IfIndex to determine which is the correct one to use, but when I rediscover the device again, the 'index' column shows the Index number in a brown colour (from the legend at the bottom of the screen), that means it's Changed.

 

I'm now very confused as I'm not sure if OpManager is monitoring the correct interface for the device I wanted.
