At the moment, we can not say mobile have chosen GPON, but from the sight of technology, 

we advice GPON. We have spent a lot of time on deciding to choose GPON or EPON, the 

view point as follow:

From a technical point of view: GPON is bigger than EPON bandwidth (2.5 times), the 

transmission distance is farther (more than 10 km), shunt higher than (double), the China 

mobile room, optical fiber strained resources under the condition of less, more meet the 

demand of flattening access network construction.

From the industrial chain of GPON system, chip size and strength are over EPON and optical 

module manufacturer, all the big support GPON system manufacturer, seven chip manufacturer 

support GPON, there are only three support EPON, and GPON chip manufacturers more size and strength.

From the operator to choose, most operators choose GPON, nine out of ten big fixedline operators choose GPON, telecom and China unicom 

will also choose EPON and GPON.

From the point of cost, cost of single user access EPON and GPON, GPON unit bandwidth costs are low .

From the point of technology evolution, 10 g EPON scale commercial need at least 3 years time, 

will not affect current technology selection.GPON in the future will also to the evolution of 

GPON and 10 g WDM PON.

From the point of communication, in FTTH application is superior to EPON GPON, but as a result 

of China mobile mainly FTTB model application, EPON cannot meet the requirements of each.
