Changing the date format

We have just purchased your software and I am trying to figure out if there is a way to adjust the date format.
Currently all formats available under personalize appear to be in a day/month/year type format. I would like to be able to change the format so the date will display as Month/day/year. This is especially needed when looking at open requests
