Can somebody please help a complete newbie

I stumbled across this program and though i'd hve a play with it as it is something I've been looking for, for a while.
So, I have 3 machines, one that I run a few things on, like miRC bot, etc, that I class as my server, all my photos are on there, re-install programs etc. This server machine is on 24/7.
So I had a play setting it up as a domain, with windows 2000 server installed on it, installed Desktop Central. Changed my main (not the server) machine to connect to the domain, rather than a workgroup, got all the welcome pop up messages, so I'm thinking it is sort of working (again, I stress I'm new at all this, the closest I've had to accessing Domains is when I'm in work, and I log onto the works pc's)
So I get Desktop Central Quick Start, tells me "Actve Directory" and "DNS Server" are running. So I get to the next bit, seeing if I want to set up "Internet Connection" and "Mail Server" etc.
I choose "Browse" to getthe choice of "Domain Controllers" and "Browse" on the user name to get the choice of "Administrator" I put in the password, etc, etc. Get to the final stage and I get an error.

Group Policy Object (GPO) creation failed (1103)
Error Message:
Could not create GPO(8007203a) The server is not operational.
Description:
Desktop Central server could not create Group Policy Object in the specified domain.
Possible Cause:
PDC machine failure or PDC locating issues could also be one of the cause.
Issues related to domain related SRV records in DNS can cause this problem.
Domain related SRV Records are missing [ Show ]
_ldap._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.dc._msdcs.homenetwork.net
Solution:
Run DCDIAG and NETDIAG in verbose mode in domain controller to ensure that required environment is correct.
Check the availability of the Primary Domain Controller.
Ensure the DNS entry in the network connection of the Desktop Central running machine is pointing to the appropriate DNS server.
Inorder to recreate the SRV records, restart the NETLOGON service of your Domain Controller after pointing its DNS entry of Network Connection to the DDNS (Dynamic DNS) capable DNS server.

I have download DCDIAG and NETDIAG, and again, with this all being new to me I'm am digging a hole, bigger and bigger to jump into...
Can anybody please help me, either a decent (user friendly) website (or a step by step walkthrough guide) or tips they may have done if they experianced the same problems?
