Blank page when accessing site

Blank page when accessing site

Hello,

We recently upgraded to 5.5 build 9 from 5.5, and I cannot access our site if I use just the servername, i.e. http://servicedesk1

if I use the FQDN it seems to work for me, but not for other technicians.  This is if IE 7 or 8 is used.

In Firefox, if i access just the server name, it prompts for a login, then sends you to a blank page at:

http://servicedesk1/j_security_check

is there a problem with some sort of authentication?

Also, I looked through older posts about pass-through and all that stuff....our IE settings match those settings.
