Automated Patch Deployment... no scheduler?
In build 10.0.205 which I have deployed to fix a different issue, you have removed the scheduler from automated patch deployment.
Please advise how for example, can I patch a group of servers next week with the latest updates they will require?
Previously I could scan and download the patches without deployment, then patch the servers separately in batches. I also do the same for workstations, where I patch 10% of our estate on any given day so as not to overload the bandwidth on any site, using custom AD groups of computers.
Where I can schedule the patching from the patch deployment tasks, but not update the scan data now, I'm more likely to miss patches with this new system than previously.
The announcement on the Automated Patch Deployment page reads "Scheduler has been removed to eliminate delay in detecting missing patches." Now I am far more likely to miss updates as I cannot schedule the scan? I used this facility to scan all 500+ servers that we manage on a daily basis, then knowing that when I choose to patch them from the regular patch deployment system which I do via extremely managed groups, that the scan data was always up to date. This gave me a report of missing patches, which I could send to the teams who run these servers and get agreement to deploy the updates.
Now I can't scan and download patches only - I HAVE to deploy them. Scanning systems was also a key way for me to exclude missing updates that I might not want to install (such as .NET updates on application servers) - so it seems that much of the "automated" part of automated patch deployment has been removed. This has made scanning for missing updates a completely manual task, which surely has to be worse?
It is for me - as this is now I am close to dropping DTC for patching completely just 1 day after I've deployed this update. I have emailed support, got a ticket back, but no response in 24hours. We pay good money for this - please help!
