Audit Trails/Logs Purging

By default, the PMP configuration for purging of audit logs is turned off. So, PMP has been keeping audit logs since we have first installed the application.
We would like PMP to automatically delete logs older than 1 or 2 years. Currently, we are keeping logs that are older than 2 years.
Is there any precaution we should have in mind on making this change? Do you suggest a specific time (after-work hours) to make this change?
