Associating assets purchased to scanned software
I have submitted the following question directly to a ServiceDeskPlus technician, but wanted to see if anyone in the group has thoughts or knowledge.
I am using ServiceDeskPlus 6013.
I am trying to asscociate purchased assets to scanned software (licenses). The ServiceDesk technician provided the following instructions:
Click Inventory Tab---->select scanned software-->Filter managed software--->Onthe page you can see a button Allocate License -->select the workstation and allocate accordingly.
This functionality is close, but actually about 180 degrees from what we need. I responded with the following:
I tried the solution that you presented below for designating licensed software, but the functionality doesnt quite match our needs (which I previously described). It is close. I will describe again.
1) We create a Product Type: Product Type = Software
2) We create a Product within this Product Type: Product = PCAnywhere
3) We procure 50 copies of this Product and add them as assets: Asset = 50 instances of Product = PCAnywhere
4) We scan our domain and find 40 workstations with scanned software item Symantec PCAnywhere. I find this by going to the Inventory tab and selecting scanned software. I see Symantec PCAnywhere as a line item under scanned software. I click on Symantec PCAnywhere and am taken to a screen listing every workstation with this product installed. This screen reports that we have a license violation as there are 40 unlicensed installations. I want to be able to allocate 40 of the 50 PCAnywhere assets to these unlicensed installs.
The solution which you detail below will create 40 NEW assets for Symantec PCAnywhere, but that doesnt associate to the assets which I have already built. Basically, the approach you outline below is backwards from my needs and that which I would suspect most users will have. Since we purchase licensing in bulk, we need to be able to distribute the licenses as they are needed. I have to believe that ServiceDesk can handle this.
Any ideas?
