We name our PC's with the owners name so that when the PC changes owner we rename the PC. This has the advantage that on the network we can see machine ownership and access shared folders etc. The serial number obviously stays the same.
However when using the Service desk asset manager instead of detecting the change and updating the record it throws up an error :
FAILURE :Database exception while updating Workstation.Please report the problem to the system administrator, with the Error Code - 1,282,826,455,138.
This seems to be because the record is indexed with both the machine name and the serial number.
How should we manage machine naming so as to be able to use the asset inventory feature or get it to use the serial number as the key.?
