Applications Manager Build 182600 – AWS DynamoDB Regex Validation Failure After Migration

Hello ManageEngine Support Team,

We recently migrated ManageEngine Applications Manager from build 174302 to build 182600, including the embedded PostgreSQL database migration from version 15.5 to 17.11.

The new Applications Manager installation starts successfully, and we can access the web console and review our existing monitors and configurations.

However, we are experiencing an issue with our existing AWS DynamoDB monitoring configuration.

Environment:

  • Previous Applications Manager build: 174302

  • Current Applications Manager build: 182600

  • Previous PostgreSQL version: 15.5

  • Current PostgreSQL version: 17.11

  • AWS monitor type: Amazon / DynamoDB

  • Authentication method: IAM User Access Keys

  • Discovery filter: .*

  • Discovery interval: 5 minutes

Issue description:

When editing our existing AWS DynamoDB monitor and clicking Test Credential, the application displays the following error:

"Invalid regular expression provided for the field 'Regex to filter EC2 instance names'. Please make sure to add '.*' as a prefix, suffix, or in the middle."

This occurs even though .* is a valid regular expression.

We also tested ^.*$, but the validation still failed.

Troubleshooting results:

  1. When the discovery regex is set to .*, the credential test fails.

  2. When the discovery regex is set to ^.*$, the credential test also fails.

  3. When the discovery regex field is left completely empty, the credential test succeeds.

  4. The error is reproducible in both manual credential tests and scheduled AWS monitoring cycles.

  5. Multiple existing DynamoDB monitors are affected.

  6. No equivalent regex validation errors were found in the available logs from the previous installation.

Relevant application logs:

AmazonMonitor::AWS::[11499767]::Invalid regex format. Regex=.*

AmazonMonitor::AWS::[-1]::callMain()::Auth failed.

AmazonMonitor::AWS::[11499767]::Invalid regex format. Regex=.*
===> /testCredential.do

The parent AWS monitor has Resource ID 11499767, with several associated DynamoDB monitors.

Request for assistance:

Could you please help us determine:

  1. Whether this is a known issue or regression in Applications Manager build 182600.

  2. Whether the expected syntax or validation rules for AWS discovery filters have changed between builds 174302 and 182600.

  3. Whether a migration-specific configuration adjustment is required.

  4. Whether a hotfix, patch, or newer supported build is available to correct this behavior.

  5. Whether leaving the regex field empty is a supported workaround that will not negatively affect existing DynamoDB monitors or automatic discovery.

We would prefer to preserve our existing AWS monitors and database configuration without recreating the monitors or modifying the database directly.

Please let us know if you require additional logs, diagnostic information, or a support bundle.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
Infrastructure Team
