[Announcement] Upcoming agent security enhancements

[Announcement] Upcoming agent security enhancements

Hello everyone,

We’re reaching out to inform you about an important update that may affect your current deployment of EventLog Analyzer.

As part of our efforts to improve platform security and streamline support, we will be deprecating agent installation support for all Windows OSs earlier than Windows 7 in an upcoming release. This includes legacy versions like Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

What does this mean for users?

If you're currently using the EventLog Analyzer agents on these older OSs, those agents will no longer be supported going forward. However, this does not mean you have to stop collecting logs from these devices.

Recommended actions

  • Install the EventLog Analyzer agent on devices running Windows 7 and above.

  • Map unsupported legacy devices to these agent-enabled systems for seamless log collection and centralized monitoring.

To continue collecting logs from devices running unsupported OSs, we recommend the following options:

  • Switch to agentless log collection, which enables centralized logging without the need for an agent.

  • Use third-party log forwarders such as Snare to send logs from these devices.

Also, we have introduced a dedicated port for Agent-Server communication and enforced HTTPS to ensure secure data transfer.

Why are we making this change?

  • Enhanced security: Newer OSs offer improved security and compatibility with modern protocols.

  • Better performance: Optimized stability and quicker problem-solving are ensured by targeted development for current OSs.

  • Future-readiness: Using newer OSs helps us all align with compliance mandates and best practices in IT security.

If you have any questions, need help with transitioning, or want guidance on best practices, feel free to reply to this post or reach out to our support team.

Thanks for your understanding and continued support!

Warm regards,
The EventLog Analyzer team
