Alerting on Monitors not responding

Alerting on Monitors not responding

Currently there is NO WAY to know if a resource that is being checked is actually responding. If a resource monitor, or any other monitor, is set to poll at certain intervals and gets no data back I think an alert should be generated. For instance, we did a mail server upgrade last week and I just noticed today that the cpu, memory, and disk were not being graphed. This was due to an ip change and I would have caught it much sooner if it were to alert me of this problem. The ip address was still pingable. This has happened in other cases as well where doing WMI checks and there is a synchronization problem on the server between the performance statistics and the WMI engine where we had to run "wmiadap /f". It would be nice if you had a checkbox that said whether or not to notify on this service monitor being down for each one since there are occasions where in a desktop you would not want to be notified necessarily. You could tie this in with the "Monitoring checkbox" on the monitoring properties of the devices.
