Alarm Escalations

Alarm Escalations

Thanks to Gabriel for the tip on adding comma delimited addresses to the "To:" field on the Notification Profiles setup. That is going to help me overcome a large stumbling block I have.

Along the same lines; I think the Escalation set up (Admin>Alarm Escalation) is a little too broad scoped.

Correct me if I am interpreting this wrong, but let's say I have an alarm on one of my MX server, SMTP is down. I have the notification profile unix-mx-admins consisting of two SMS addresses and two email addresses for my MX admins, after 20 minutes the service is still down and so I need to alert my unix-mx-escalators, which is an other profile with a combination of SMS and email addresses and then worse case scenario, it's been down for longer than 30 minutes and I have alert my unix-mx-supervisors, again another set of SMS and email addresses in a separate profile.

From the looks of the form, the Escalation set up only allows you to pick a severity and a infrastructure and time frame and that is applied globally.

This might be a good cue for the developers to look at how Nagios uses contact, contact group, and escalation rule definitions, because he Notification Profile setup still leaves a little to be desired as well.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan
